GODSGARDEN x TwitchTV Says Goodbye to Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition as We Know It

On November 27, GODSGARDEN, Japan’s most revered fighting game community, joins forces with TwitchTV, the world’s largest video game broadcasting community, to bid farewell to Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition with a special “Classic Tournament.” Set in Akihabara, Japan, this “Classic Tournament” will feature some of the greatest fighting game talent in the world with players such as Mago, Kindevu, Itsabashi Zangief, Kazunoko, Mike Ross and more in attendance, all fighting for a $1,000 USD prize pool, sponsored by TwitchTV.

This “Classic Tournament” is unique in that it features a strict rule on which characters are made available to players as only those found in the original Street Fighter II will be allowed for tournament play. This means that of the 39 characters available in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, the only characters allowed for GODSGARDEN x TwitchTV will be Ryu, Ken, Chun-li, Guile, Blanka, Dhalsim, E.Honda, Zangief, Balrog, Sagat, Vega and M.Bison.

“To say that we’re proud to be entering into a collaboration with GODSGARDEN would be an understatement,” says Jared Rea, TwitchTV Community Manager. “Everyone at TwitchTV believes in the fighting game community. We’re working hard towards extending its reach, as well as accelerating its growth and it’s incredibly thrilling to now be doing so on a global level with a group that we respect as both players and organizers.”

“Cross Counter is excited to be a part of the GODSGARDEN event,” says Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez of Cross Counter, who will be traveling to Japan to take part in the tournament along with Mike Ross. “We are thrilled to return to Japan for such an exciting event and look forward to meeting all of the Japanese players and organizers. It’s great to have TwitchTV involved with such a prestigious event.”

GODSGARDEN x TwitchTV will be available for free online viewing at at 1PM JST (8PM PST, 5AM CET), November 27. If you’d like to be alerted via email when the event goes live, click on the “Subscribe” button on the GODSGARDEN TwitchTV page.
