TwitchTV announces $1000 Sponsorship of SBO Qualifier

Riding off the wild success of Evo2011, it was really a no-brainer for us at TwitchTV to get more involved with the Fighting Game Community. That’s why we’ve jumped on the opportunity to support the next major fighting game event – the East Coast qualifiers for SBO, also known as Tougeki – Super Battle Opera.

SBO is one of the most prestigious international Fighting Game events in the world and will feature a Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2v2 tournament. Here are the details:

Schedule:

12PM-10PM EDT, August 6th, 2011. The stream will be found at http://www.twitch.tv/teamsp00ky

Tournament Format:
Double Elimination (Character lock, 2/3 rounds, 2/3 games, only grand finals is 3/5)

  • There will be 2 separate SSF4 Arcade Edition singles tournament (Capped at 64 players per tournament, “first come first serve bases”), each culminating with the winner qualifying for a spot on the 2v2 team.
  • Whomever wins the first qualifying spot, the character used will not be permitted for the second tournament.
  • You MUST enter the first tournament in order to participate in the second tournament.

Prizes:

The main prize was going to come directly from the entrance fees originally. However, TwitchTV has come in to guarantee and additional $1000 in prizes to be split between the two tournament winners.

When asked about TwitchTV’s involvement in the event, Victor ‘Sp00ky’ Fontanez commented:

“Getting our USA Qualifier winners out to japan each year to face off against the worlds finest is always a difficlt undertaking, and TwitchTV’s help relieves a huge burden on the East Coast scene. Make sure to tune in to watch some of USA’s finest battle it out for a chance to represent us on a worldwide stage! I believe TwitchTV has the best possible platform for gaming streams and events, and I am proud to use their platform for TeamSp00ky”

With LevelUp | Series, IPlayWinner, Offcast, FinestKO, PeacefulJay, GODSGARDEN, and of course TeamSp00ky already on our platform, it was an obvious choice to get involved on a deeper level.

Stay GDLK, fighting game community 🙂
